Digital Subak – Bali

Digital Subak is looking for a curious and independent person to support our research, technology development and public communication.

Digital Subak combines environmental research, community participation, sensors, data analysis and digital technology to help protect Bali’s water resources. We are particularly interested in hearing from Balinese applicants who care about sustainable development and the future of water management on their island.

What you will work on

  • Supporting research about water resources, rainfall, flooding and the environment
  • Organising, analysing and visualising environmental and sensor data
  • Using AI agents to help create simple databases, connectors, automations and digital tools
  • Making simple modifications to websites and online dashboards
  • Helping prepare graphics, maps, presentations and social media content
  • Assisting with the promotion of Digital Subak and communication with communities and potential partners
  • Contributing your own ideas and experimenting with new approaches

You do not need to be an experienced software developer. We are looking for someone who understands the basics, is comfortable learning with AI tools and enjoys solving practical problems.

Who we are looking for

  • Interest in technology, informatics, data analysis and environmental sustainability
  • Basic coding ability and experience with AI-assisted or “vibe” coding
  • Ability to create or modify simple databases, connectors or automations with support from AI agents
  • Ability to make basic website modifications
  • Basic graphic-design and visual-communication skills
  • Independent, responsible and willing to take initiative
  • Comfortable trying unfamiliar tools and learning through experimentation
  • Able to communicate in Indonesian and English
  • Preferably holding or currently completing a bachelor’s degree in engineering, informatics, environmental science, data science or another technical field

Balinese applicants with a personal interest in protecting Bali’s environment and water resources are especially encouraged to apply.

Working conditions

  • Part-time: approximately 20 hours per week
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangement
  • Work from your own location, a co-working space or occasionally together in person
  • Occasional field visits and in-person meetings in Bali
  • Salary: Rp2,750,000–Rp3,250,000 per month, depending on experience and ability
  • Additional performance-based bonus

  • Applicant must have their own computer and reliable internet connection
  • Initial two-week paid evaluation and onboarding period
